This Central American bean is grown in the Atitlan region of central Guatemala in San Miguel Pochuta by the Echeverria family. The beans are grown at an altitude of 1,066 – 1,124 meters high and undergoes a wash process. The coffee is harvested from October to March and sun-dried on patios. The family has been producing and processing coffee since 1870. The farm incorporates conscientious environmental practices. Organic fertilizer comes from the farm's coffee residue and the farm also maintains the river basins and natural vegetation that is grown nearby. They filter the water before disposing of it to prevent contamination of the nearby rivers. Located on the farm is a natural forest reserve. The farm qualified for organic certification and is also bird-friendly certified by the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center. Farm employees and their families are provided housing, drinkable water and educational benefits.
